Natural recovery is a project that has arisen from the need of greening the back garden at the Syrian House, a registered care home in Sale that provides care, support and accommodation for 17 adults over the age of 30 with serious and enduring mental health needs.

We have transformed the garden into a vegetable plot and have plans of creating a Sensory Garden, which will bring pleasure to its residents and to the wider community whilst operating as a natural haven for wildlife.

We aim to:

  1. Offer the residents of the house the possibility of participating in an environmental project that will improve their mental and physical health and which will promote their independence, rehabilitation and recovery.
  2. Get the people in the local community involved in a sustainable project where they will learn about the benefits of working with nature and of growing their own food.
  3. To bring the community together to share outdoor experiences with the residents of the house, in an attempt to reduce social exclusion and to help create a society that treats people with experience of mental distress fairly, positively, and with respect
